This training material focuses on the knowledge, skills and understandings that are critical for those who mentor new teachers. In contains a trainer’s manual, participant handouts, CD-ROM, and a video.

Teachers who receive effective support in their first few years of teaching are most likely to remain in the profession and become the committed, caring, quality educators of tomorrow. Foundations in Mentoring training focuses on the knowledge, skills, and understanding that are critical for those who work with beginning teachers.

Developed by the nationally renowned New Teacher Center, this training is guided by the belief that learning to teach is a career-long developmental process that involves a continuous cycle of planning, teaching, and reflecting. Some of the key concepts included are:

Foundations in Mentoring provides all the components for a successful training:

1. Presenter Binder containing daily scripts, clear directions, trainer notes, and overhead masters
2. Participant Packet with all necessary handouts (included in the binder and on the CD-ROM)
3. Video entitle Mentoring Conversation
4. CD-ROM with master copies for participant handouts, overheads, and all supplementary materials

This training is especially appropriate for mentor teachers, supervisors of interns and pre-interns, subject matter coaches, master teachers, peer coaches, support providers, and administrators of programs that provide support for beginning teachers.
