TEACHER INDUCTION
Educators and policymakers across the country have recognized the need for quality teacher induction programs that provide the next generation of teachers with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed. The New Teacher Center (NTC) has developed a research-based induction model through which educators can build induction programs that improve novice teachers instructional practices, improve student achievement and teacher retention, and build district leadership. NTC's Formative Assessment System (FAS) empowers new teachers through the assessment-guided support of mentor colleagues. New teachers who engage in such a professional relationship employ effective instructional practices that result in greater student achievement. The collaborative aspects of mentor-guided induction promote professional habits of mind, foster learning communities, and create a cohort of teacher leaders. National Teacher Induction ProgramsNTC offers comprehensive programs as well as individual products and services for schools and teaching professionals across the country. The NTC Induction Model and Formative Assessment System provide demonstrated benefits to school districts (Villar & Strong 2007).
