Mentor Professional Development Offerings
Supporting new teachers is complex and demanding work, and rarely intuitive. Exemplary classroom educators do not always become outstanding teacher educators.
Veteran teachers stepping forward to mentor beginning colleagues need time, careful training, and ongoing support to develop new skills and understandings
that will enable them to become talented teachers of teachers. In response to the belief that strong mentor professional development is essential, the
New Teacher Center offers a menu of trainings from which educational organizations can choose to support the growth of mentors, coaches, supervisors,
master teachers, consultant teachers, principals, and coordinators of induction programs. The trainings are offered regionally on selected dates throughout the year on a per
participant enrollment basis. NTC trainings are also available to school districts, universities, and other educational entities on a contractual basis.

The Induction Institute - a four day program focusing on building capacity of participating teams
Mentor Academy series - a two year program of sequenced curriculum focused on building the knowledge, skills and understandings for new teacher mentors and coaches
Instructional Mentoring (two days) Supporting mentors in responding to each new teacher’s developmental and contextual needs and promote the ongoing examination of classroom practice. (Download flyer.)
Setting Professional Goals (one day) Deepening mentors’ understanding of the role of formative assessment through establishing focused goals, based on student standards and professional teaching standards. (Download flyer.)
Coaching and Observation Strategies for Working with Beginning Teachers (two days) Assisting mentors in collecting and sharing classroom observation data aligned with professional teaching standards and to help new teachers improve instructional practice. (Download flyer.)
Analysis of Student Work, Differentiation, and Lesson Planning (two days) Providing mentors with tools and strategies for helping beginning teachers identify student needs, plan for differentiated instruction, and ensure equitable learning outcomes. (Download flyer.)
Coaching in Complex Situations (one day) An advanced coaching training to support the mentors’ professional development to coach strategically and to find solutions to challenging situations. (Download flyer.)
Designing and Presenting Professional Development for Beginning Teachers (two days) Supporting mentors in bringing new teachers together for meaningful and responsive learning experiences based on principles of adult learning. (Download flyer.)
Mentoring for Equity (two days) Presenting mentors with a framework for coaching new teachers regarding inequities in issues of race, language, and culture. (Download flyer.)
Creating and Facilitating Meetings that Promote Mentor Development(one day) Providing a meeting design format and strategies to create collaborative environments for mentors to develop skills, gain knowledge, and problem-solve issues of mentoring. (Download flyer.)
The Role of the Principal in Supporting High Quality Induction (one day) Supporting principals in identifying beginning teacher developmental needs and determining effective strategies to help new teachers thrive, not just survive.
Mentoring for English Language Learner Success (two days) Supporting mentors and beginning teachers in becoming agents of change by providing knowledge, skills, and tools that lead to English learner success.
