ABOUT THE NTC

New Teacher Center Partnership with Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2)

    Description of Project

The New Teacher Center is extending its Induction Model to include a Math/Science Mentor Professional Development Academy and Toolkit.  This project has been made possible in part by a grant from Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2) and Community Foundation Silicon Valley.

During the 2004/2005 school year, the SV2 Grant team convened to revise the NTC mentor training curriculum to include math/science specific content and pedagogy and create a resource toolkit for mentors and new teachers.

The NTC has been piloting the Academy and Toolkit during the 2005-6 and 2006-7 school years with participating teachers and mentors in the Silicon Valley New Teacher Project, evaluating the project and revising both the Academy and Toolkit.

During the third and final year of the SV2 Grant, the team will continue to revise both the Academy and Toolkit, evaluate the project, and compare student achievement data for participating new teachers’ students to data from a comparison group.

At the end of the three-year grant cycle, the team will publish the Math/Science Mentor Professional Development Academy materials.
